The Madumbarra lives in waterways all through the Gulf Country and appear in a number of Dreamtime Stories.
Although they are plentiful in Garrwa country, they have never been a traditional bush food. They are a totem animal for many Garrwa people and central to a number of ancient rock paintings in the region.
