Didgeridoo – river diversion from mining. – 2022
Carved/wood objects – Acrylic on Canvas – 96 cm long
Didgeridoo playing is still widely practiced as part of ceremony and song in the Gulf Country.
All four clans of the region Yanyuwa, Marra (saltwater) Garrwa, Gudanji (mainland) include this ancient instrument in their ritual and ceremony.
The making of these simple (yet hard to play) instruments begins in the bush, where suitable hollow branches are collected.
They are then cut to size, hand-hewn smooth and decorated with the artists own stories.
Each one is unique and reflects the artistic style, dreaming and clan associations of the individual artist.
