Water Lily – Kakayi or Margargaii – 2024
Acrylic on Canvas – 40 x 40 cm (pre-stretched)
Water Lily is a traditional food for Indigenous people in the Gulf Country. It can be found in the water holes and lagoons all around the Gulf Region and is edible in many ways. The seeds are ground up to make damper flour, and the stalks and leaves are an edible vegetable.
The inside part of the stalk is a lot like celery and the the root bulbs are cooked like a potato.
