Around the Tennant Creek region Kanta (bush coconut) is harvested as an important bush food.

It grows on small bushes – the inside pf the pod, a small worm lives which eats the inner flesh and leaves an edible desiccated substance that tastes like coconut. The worm is also edible.

Gathering of this important bush food is still a common practice among people from Warlmanpa and Warlpiri people.
